Pelvic health physiotherapy in Ipswich, Suffolk and surrounding areas.

Do you need to see a pelvic health physio?

Published On: 8 September 20264.1 min read

You have ever crossed your legs before you sneeze?

Planned your day around where the nearest toilet is?

Avoided running because you’re worried about leaking?

Felt a heaviness or dragging feeling after a long day?

Or perhaps sex has become uncomfortable, and you’re not sure who to talk to about it.

These things are really common, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept them as just part of having a baby, getting older or going through menopause.

A pelvic health physiotherapist can help you understand what’s happening and, importantly, what you can do about it. We support women across Ipswich, Suffolk and the surrounding areas with personalised pelvic health physiotherapy.

Do you leak when you exercise, cough or sneeze?

A little bit of leakage when you run, jump, laugh or sneeze might seem harmless, but it’s worth getting checked.

Your pelvic floor is only one part of the picture. Your breathing, abdominal muscles, strength, exercise technique and the way you manage pressure can all play a role.

Our pelvic health physiotherapists help women throughout Ipswich and Suffolk understand the cause of their symptoms and regain confidence in exercise and everyday activities.

Are you always looking for the nearest toilet?

Do you get that sudden “I need to go NOW” feeling?

Or find yourself going to the toilet “just in case”?

Bladder urgency and frequency can be frustrating and can start to dictate where you go and what you do.

A pelvic health physio can help you work out what’s contributing to your symptoms and give you practical strategies to regain confidence.

Do you feel a bulge or heaviness?

Maybe you’ve noticed something doesn’t feel quite right downstairs.

Perhaps there’s a dragging sensation at the end of the day, after exercise or when you’ve been standing for a long time.

This can sometimes be associated with pelvic organ prolapse. You don’t have to stop doing everything you enjoy. With the right advice and rehabilitation, many women can continue exercising and living an active life.

Has sex has become painful?

This can be a difficult one to talk about.

Pain during sex can happen for lots of different reasons, including changes following childbirth, menopause, pelvic floor muscle tension, vulval pain or other pelvic health conditions.

You shouldn’t feel embarrassed about asking for help and you certainly shouldn’t feel that you just have to put up with it.

Has going to the toilet has become a struggle?

If you spend ages on the toilet, strain, feel like you haven’t completely emptied or have to change position to get things moving, your pelvic floor could be part of the problem.

Sometimes doing more pelvic floor squeezes isn’t the answer. You may actually need to learn how to relax and coordinate the muscles properly.

Have you had a baby?

Having a baby is a huge physical event.

Whether you had a vaginal birth, caesarean section, stitches or no obvious injury at all, it’s completely reasonable to want some help getting your body moving and feeling confident again.

A pelvic health physio can help you return to exercise, running, lifting and everyday activities, as well as addressing any bladder, bowel, pelvic floor or pelvic pain symptoms. We support new mums across Ipswich, Suffolk and surrounding communities at every stage of their recovery.

Are you going through perimenopause or menopause?

Menopause can affect much more than your periods.

Changes in hormones can affect your bladder, bowel, vaginal tissues, pelvic floor and sexual function.

If you’re suddenly experiencing urgency, leakage, discomfort during sex or other pelvic symptoms, you don’t have to simply put it down to “getting older.”

Are you unsure whether you actually need a physio?

This is probably the most important one.

You don’t need to be severely incontinent or have significant pelvic pain before asking for help.

Sometimes it’s simply:

“Things don’t feel quite right.”

That’s enough reason to get some advice.

A pelvic health assessment is about understanding you, your symptoms and what you want to get back to doing, whether that’s running, going to the gym, playing with your children, enjoying sex, sleeping through the night or simply getting through your day without worrying about your bladder or bowel.

Our pelvic health physiotherapy service welcomes women from Ipswich, Suffolk and the surrounding areas who want answers, reassurance and practical support.

Pelvic health isn’t something you should have to feel embarrassed about.

These symptoms are common. They’re treatable. And talking about them is the first step.

If something has changed, don’t just put up with it. A pelvic health physiotherapist can help you work out what’s going on and what your options are. Whether you’re based in Ipswich, elsewhere in Suffolk or the surrounding area, we’re here to help you feel informed, supported and confident in your recovery.
